There are three key questions to ask about your tires to ensure safe travel:
Are your tires aligned?
Are your tires mounted correctly?
What is proper tire rotation method?
Irregular or uneven tire treadwear patterns may be arrested and /or reversed by proper rotation of the tire to another vehicle wheel position (and possibly reversing the direction of rotation). This is particularly true of free rolling wheel position such as steer and trailer tires. In fact, periodically rotation of the steer tires can actually prevent - or at least delay - the onset of irregular wear. TMC recommends tires to be rotate at about 50 percent of their expected service life. When possible, tires should be rotated to another axle on the vehicle, run in the opposite direction of rotation, and exchanged "inner-outer" if in dual mounting. Directional tires and wheels should maintain the proper direction of rotation. Trailer tire rotation should be the same as drive tires.
